Erzya launched a public campaign to achieve the opening of a modern gymnasium in Saransk with the Erzya language of the educational process.<\/span><\/p><\/span>\n\n<\/span>\n\n<\/span><\/span>\n\n<\/span>\n\n<\/span>

Erzya people already by the whole families ask the head of Republic of Mordovia Vladimir Volkov to create the Saransk school,<\/span> where <\/span>\u201cErzya language is not only taught as a subject,<\/span> but also where a number of compulsory subjects would be taught in their native Erzya language\u201d<\/span>.<\/p><\/span>\n\n<\/span>\n\n<\/span>

Poet and writer Eryush Vezhaj says about the initiative:<\/span> \u201cAmong the Erzya people there is a long discussion about the creation of Erzya grammar school.<\/span> Modern national culture cannot be developed in the kitchen.<\/span> It needs talented writers,<\/span> journalists,<\/span> screenwriters,<\/span> and translators.<\/span> Where could they come from?<\/span> From schools where the Erzya language is taught an optional hour a week?<\/span> For such talents to appear,<\/span> you need an environment.<\/span> The Erzya gymnasium should become such an environment for teachers and students.<\/span>\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/span>\n\n<\/span>\n\n<\/span>

Activists note that the question of <\/span>\u201clanguage competition\u201d<\/span> in the multinational Russian Federation is unacceptable,<\/span> and the Erzya language itself is in the position of a <\/span>\u201cpoor relative\u201d<\/span>, when instead of it is <\/span>\u201clearning of any language,<\/span> developing any culture,<\/span> and the Erzya people themselves are offered to <\/span>\u201ccompete\u201d<\/span> with English and Russian languages in the kitchen and in the rural environment.<\/span> What competition can we talk about if the Russian language is studied 8-9 hours a week,<\/span> and the Erzya language is studied just one!<\/span> Erzya people sadly joke that since the signing of the Federal Treaty,<\/span> only one letter has changed in the curriculum.<\/span> \u201cRussian with Erzya TOGETHER\u201d<\/span> turned <\/span>\u201cRussian Erzya INSTEAD\u201d<\/span> (Com.<\/span> \u2013 in Russian language the word <\/span>\u201ctogether\u201d<\/span> is <\/span>\u201cvmestE\u201d<\/span>, and the word <\/span>\u201cinstead\u201d<\/span> is <\/span>\u201cvmestO\u201d<\/span>, that\u2019s why it turns out to be a play on words)<\/span> \u2013 Eryush Vezhaj explains.<\/span><\/p><\/span>\n\n<\/span>\n\n<\/span>

In October 2019,<\/span> the Chief Elder <\/span>(\u201cInyazor\u201d<\/span>) of the Erzya people,<\/span> Syres Bolyaen,<\/span> appealed to the Government of the Republic of Mordovia to open an Erzya gymnasium in Saransk.<\/span> In the same month,<\/span> the head of Saransk,<\/span> Pyotr Tultaev,<\/span> rejected this idea,<\/span> he noted that <\/span>\u201cin Saransk schools,<\/span> especially in areas with a compact population of Mordovians,<\/span> national languages are studied.<\/span> In kindergartens,<\/span> they study the culture of the peoples of Mordovia and languages.<\/span>\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/span>\n
