On Saturday,<\/span> 13 July,<\/span> in Erzyano-Mokshania <\/span>(Republic of Mordovia)<\/span> Ras\u2019ken\u2019 Ozks was held as the biggest ancestral prayer of Erzyan people.<\/span> Village of Chukaly in Bolsheignatovsky district became the traditional place of this gathering,<\/span> where prominent battle of Erzya against Nogai horde took place in 1612.<\/span><\/p><\/span>\n\n<\/span>\n\n<\/span><\/span>\n\n<\/span>\n\n<\/span>

History of ritualized public prayers in Erzyan Mastor goes away in the mists of time.<\/span> However in 1629 Muscovy forbade to celebrate Ras\u2019ken\u2019 Ozks.<\/span> Tsar\u2019s prohibition suspended the tradition for 370 years.<\/span> Only in 1999 Erzya succeeded to revive an ancient ritual.<\/span> From 2004 Ras\u2019ken\u2019 Ozks is conducted in Chukaly every three years.<\/span>

Ras\u2019ken\u2019 Ozks gathers Erzya people from all over the world,<\/span> whole nearest villages of participants arrive in Chukaly.<\/span> Traditional religious ceremonies,<\/span> national games,<\/span> songs,<\/span> demonstration of folk suits and tasting of ritual dishes are organized here.<\/span> The major element of Ras\u2019ken\u2019 Ozks is collective prayer and invitation of souls of Erzya dead ancestors.<\/span>

Except ceremonial,<\/span> Ras\u2019ken\u2019 Ozks also plays very important social role.<\/span> Council of Elders,<\/span> Atian\u2019 Ezem,<\/span> is gathered before the prayer to discuss the most important issues in the life of Erzyan people.<\/span> Until next Ras\u2019ken\u2019 Ozks is held,<\/span> members of the Council choose the chief elder,<\/span> Inyazor,<\/span> by a secret ballot.<\/span>

Kshumantsian\u2019 Pyrguzh was elected as Inyazor of Erzyan people six times in a row.<\/span> However for this time Atian\u2019 Ezem entrusted implementation of this important mission to Syres\u2019 Boliayen\u2019,<\/span> chairman of Erzyan Val society and <\/span>co-founder of Free Idel-Ural civic movement<\/a><\/span>. New Inyazor\u2019s candidacy was supported by 12 elders <\/span>(from 18 total)<\/span>.

Syres\u2019 Boliayen\u2019 is an Erzyan poet,<\/span> translator,<\/span> activist of Erzyan community in Ukraine.<\/span> He was a participant of Revolution of Dignity <\/span>(EuroMaidan)<\/span> in Ukraine and liberation war against Russian occupants in Eastern Ukraine.<\/span> In his keynote speech Syres\u2019 Boliayen\u2019 encouraged Erzya to be thoughtful above prospects of preservation of whole Erzyan nation and actual aims of national movement.<\/span> He appealed to the Council with suggestion to stand an active position in issues of defending Erzyan national interests before authorities of Russian Federation and Republic of Mordovia.<\/span>

Syres\u2019 Boliayen\u2019 will officially take Inyazor\u2019s mandate after oath of office is taken.<\/span> Under conditions of authoritarian regime of modern Russian Federation,<\/span> chief elder\u2019s being abroad is an advantage.<\/span> It allows elected Inyazor to operate actively without risk of repressions from Kremlin and its local Mordovian servants.<\/span><\/p><\/span>\n
