On Wednesday,<\/span> June 16,<\/span> the chief elder of Erzyan people <\/span>(Inyazor)<\/span> Syre\u015b Bol\u00e4e\u0144 held a briefing for the Estonian media.<\/span><\/p><\/span>\n\n<\/span>\n\n<\/span><\/span>\n\n<\/span>\n\n<\/span>

The event took place in front of the entrance to the Estonian National Museum in Tartu,<\/span> where the opening ceremony of the VIII World Congress of Finno-Ugric Peoples is taking place.<\/span><\/p><\/span>\n\n<\/span>\n\n<\/span>

The chief elder of Erzyan people <\/span> stated that the World Congress of the Finno-Ugric Peoples is in deep crisis and needs to be reformed:<\/span> \u201cThis is not the first World Congress of the Finno-Ugric Peoples I am attending.<\/span> I am forced to state that the Congress,<\/span> as a platform for meetings and dialogue between the Finno-Ugric peoples,<\/span> is in deep crisis.<\/span> It is becoming a European analogue of the AFUN forums:<\/span> solemn meetings that are more protocol in nature.<\/span> At these meetings,<\/span> they avoid sharp topics and do not want to irritate the Russian Federation,<\/span> no matter what policy it may have towards indigenous peoples.<\/span> The Congress is less and less like a spokesman for the Finno-Ugric peoples and is more and more reminiscent of the Soviet Party Congress.<\/span>”<\/span><\/p><\/span>\n\n<\/span>\n\n<\/span>

Syre\u015b Bol\u00e4e\u0144 believes that the Congress is not only able to solve the problems of the Finno-Ugric peoples,<\/span> but also to raise and discuss such problems.<\/span><\/p><\/span>\n\n<\/span>\n\n<\/span>

<\/span>“The challenges facing all Finno-Ugric peoples today,<\/span> and first of all the stateless peoples of the Russian Federation,<\/span> do not need concerts,<\/span> joint photos in ethnic costumes,<\/span> but international instruments of pressure on Moscow,<\/span>”<\/span> the Erzya leader said.<\/span><\/p><\/span>\n\n<\/span>\n\n<\/span>

Inyazor proposed to make a number of changes to the regulations,<\/span> which in his opinion will allow to reform the Congress,<\/span> in particular:<\/span><\/p><\/span>\n\n<\/span>\n\n<\/span>

<\/span>–<\/span> The national representative bodies of the Finno-Ugric peoples do not require the approval or coordination with public authorities when forming delegations to Congress.<\/span><\/p><\/span>\n\n<\/span>\n\n<\/span>

<\/span>–<\/span> Delegates to the Congress cannot be officials <\/span>–<\/span> only public activists.<\/span> Officials may attend Congress only as observers.<\/span><\/p><\/span>\n\n<\/span>\n\n<\/span>

<\/span>–<\/span> The composition of delegations on the Congress opening day should be published.<\/span><\/p><\/span>\n\n<\/span>\n\n<\/span>

<\/span>–<\/span> Every nation should have the right to speak from the rostrum of the Congress and have the opportunity to express their problems,<\/span> their own vision of their solution.<\/span><\/p><\/span>\n\n<\/span>\n\n<\/span>
